A melee weapon, a sheild/unstable ground breaker, and a ranged weapon). You can choose which weapons you like most and stick with them for the most part as long as you cover your bases (i.e. (or switch between them while fighting for that matter, jeez I understand how that could be frustrating) Having lots of abilities just means you have a lot of variety with combat. Also, while you do have a lot of combat abilities, you aren't required to use them all.

One of them should be equipped basically always unless you are focusing solely on movement in certain parts. They are pretty crucial combat abilities. In case you didn't know, you should be using either the sword or the hammer a lot. "I find myself mainly utilizing the sword because switching between all the other options mid battle is really tedious and again, frustrating." These examples are for console so I don't know how it feels on pc. And even despite this, they still found ways to fit a ton of abilities in the movement button mapping due to environment cues (the blue circle indicator for grapple). While the blind forest's button mapping wasn't bad by any means, with the amount of new abilities added in Wisps, I believe that being able to switch between abilities was a necessary move. This way I never accidentally stomped into spikes. But on Wisps the hammer smash is used by pressing down on the movement stick AND pressing whichever of the 3 ability buttons you had it mapped to. Again taking stomp as an example, In the Blind Forest, often times when I'm gliding on air currents with kuro's feather I would sometimes barely move the movement stick a bit down from the horizonal to maneuver and Ori would stomp unintentionally (usually straight into spikes). I feel like being able to switch between the abilities and weapons kept the controls from being to crowded. You were talking about the abilities and combat being clunky and having too many options to switch between. I also personally liked how the controls are set up for it. The hammer is mainly used as a melee weapon, but when upgraded it can use a ground pound that is like stomp but with a shockwave on impact. For example, while stomp is gone, the mechanic is still used and improved upon with the spirit hammer. The only thing that I can think of that wasn't in WotW in any form is charge jump (but the amount of new movement abilities made up for this loss in my opinion). While it may seem like many things from the first game were taken out, (like sien, stomp, soul links/ability points, and charge jump) most of these mechanics made a return in different forms in WotW (or they were replaced in the case of soul links/ability points). " I’m finding myself increasingly frustrated that I don’t have the simple things the first game had." Overall, I’m not yet complete with will of the wisp but it just doesn’t fill me with the same joy as the original game. And i also dislike having to scroll through the map to other pages. I also hate the monetary system of buying things, I really enjoyed the simplicity of the ability points.

Moving around the blind forest map was fun and reminded me of the adventures I had there, and I enjoyed saving wherever I wanted. I never used dash once in the first game, and in this one I have to use it to even get around to basic areas of the map. I enjoy the new mobs to fight but the controls make it clunky! I think the combat is just straight choppy and I find myself mainly utilizing the sword because switching between all the other options mid battle is really tedious and again, frustrating. The controls are all over the place, and even remapping the controls to something tolerable makes the gameplay much more difficult but in an overly frustrating way. Will of the wisp on the other hand, though I’ve heard people absolute love this game as well, I’m finding myself increasingly frustrated that I don’t have the simple things the first game had. I really enjoyed the first game, I loved the little puzzles and I never got overly frustrated when I couldn’t figure it out. The music is amazing, the combat is fun, the skills are useful and make the gameplay dynamic. I completed ori and the blind forest and let me tell you, I fell in love with the game. I’m sorry if I upset anyone by declaring it bad, I don’t think it’s a bad game overall I just think it’s bad COMPARED TO the blind forest, because I have such a strong love for that game. I think truly if I had played the second first, I may have not finished it.

I knew this would be a controversial post here, but I do love both games the second to me just pales in comparison to the first. Let me just edit this title and post with a comment here before reading more: I THINK will of the wisp is bad compared to the blind forest.
